Getting to Know Amethyst in Minecraft

Amethyst Cluster

An Amethyst Cluster.

In real life, Amethyst is a real thing, it’s a shiny purple gem. In Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Update Part I, Amethyst comes in different forms.

  1. Block of Amethyst.
  2. Amethyst Shard.
  3. Budding Amethyst.
  4. Amethyst Buds.
  5. Amethyst Cluster.

In the latest version of Minecraft, you can find Amethyst Geode(s) in the overworld. This Amethyst Geode(s) houses Amethyst that later can be collected by the players.

Amethyst Geode looks like this:

The outer layer is Smooth Basalt, the second layer is Calcite, and on the inside, there are Blocks of Amethysts and Budding Amethysts.

This rounded ball called Amethyst Geode is found in the underground or ocean floor. Sometimes it cracked open and connected to caves or Mineshaft.

If you look at the inside, you can see Amethyst Buds and Clusters (the crystals that are attached to the wall and floor inside the Geode). Amethyst Buds are growing into Amethyst Cluster through four stages. It begins with Small Amethyst Bud > Medium Amethyst Bud > Large Amethyst Bud > Amethyst Cluster.

Amethyst Buds can only grow on Budding Amethyst. A block that looks similar to Block of Amethyst but with x mark. This block cannot be obtained and placed somewhere else for the players to “farm” the Amethyst. Players need to come back to the Geode to farm the Amethyst Crystals. Budding Amethyst grows Amethyst Buds over time.

Amethyst Shards

Amethyst Shards.

Amethyst Cluster drops 4 Amethyst Shards if destroyed using a Pickaxe. If you use anything other than a Pickaxe, it drops only two. You can increase the drop rate by using Fortune Enchanted Pickaxe.
