So, here are the Chestplate Enchantments.
Blast Protection
Blast Protection reduces the damage you get from an explosion. You usually get it from Creeper, Ghast, TNT, and Wither Boss.
Helmet (including Turtle Helmet), Leggings, and Boots can also have this Enchantment.
Blast Protection has levels from 1 – 4 and is incompatible with Fire Protection, Projectile Protection, and Protection.
Curse of Binding
You can’t take off your Chestplate. You need to die or use it until it breaks. That’s what Curse of Binding does.
The items include Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, Boots, Elytra, Carved Pumpkin, Mob Heads, and Turtle Helmet.
You don’t want this Enchantment.
Curse of Binding is considered a “Curse” Enchantment because of its negative effect. You can only find this Enchantment inside a Chest.
Curse of Binding only has 1 level and is compatible with other Enchantments.
Curse of Vanishing
It is another “Curse” Enchantment you don’t want to have. It makes your item disappear if you die, instead of dropping it on the ground.
Any other enchantable items can have this Enchantment.
Just like the Curse of Binding, you can’t get this Enchantment from the Enchanting Table, you only can find it inside a Chest.
It has only 1 level and is compatible with other Enchantments.
Fire Protection
Fire Protection reduces the damage you get from fire, and it also reduces the burn time. But this doesn’t mean you can swim freely in hot lava.
You can effectively fight inside the Nether using this Enchantment.
Helmet (including Turtle Helmet), Leggings, and Boots can also have this Enchantment.
Fire Protection has levels from 1 – 4 and is incompatible with Blast Protection, Projectile Protection, and Protection.
Mending
Mending increases the durability of an item using XP.
You need to hold/wear the item while collecting the XP to make it work.
Other enchantable items can have this Enchantment too.
Mending is considered a “Treasure” Enchantment, the opposite of a “Curse” Enchantment.
Just like the Curse of Vanishing, you can’t get it directly from the Enchanting Table. But you got other options: you can get it from Chest, fishing, or trade from the Librarian.
Mending has only 1 level and is incompatible with Infinity (Bow’s Enchantment).
Projectile Protection
Projectile Protection reduces the damage you get from projectile attacks. The most common mobs that attack using projectile are Skeletons, Strays, and Ghasts.
Helmet (including Turtle Helmet), Leggings, and Boots can also have this Enchantment.
Projectile Protection has levels from 1 – 4 and is incompatible with Blast Protection, Fire Protection, and Protection.
Protection
Protection reduces most of the damage you get, whether it’s from the projectile, explosion, fire attacks, or basic damage you usually get.
Although Protection covers up those damages, the actual Enchantment for those individual damage performs better/more effectively than Protection.
Helmet (including Turtle Helmet), Leggings, and Boots can also have Protection.
Protection has levels from 1 – 4 and is incompatible with Blast Protection, Fire Protection, and Projectile Protection.
Thorns
Thorns damage the attacker who attacks you. But, there is a drawback, the enchanted Thorn item’s durability is affected by this. The item’s durability is reduced whenever Thorns performs.
Helmet (including Turtle Helmet), Leggings, and Boots can also have Thorns but only from Enchanted Book. It’s because Thorns is mainly for Chestplates.
Thorns have levels from 1 – 3 and is compatible with other Enchantments.
Unbreaking
Unbreaking increases the item’s durability. Any other enchantable item can also have Unbreaking.
Unbreaking has levels from 1 – 3 and is compatible with other Enchantments.
Which Chestplate Enchantments Should You Pick?
Well, choosing the Enchantment for a Chestplate is a bit complicated than choosing Enchantments for tools or weapons. The reason for this is because a Chestplate is part of an Armor, and 1 set of Armor consists of Helmet, Chestplate itself, Leggings, and Boots.
And the problem is that Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, and Boots can have all of those Enchantments.
Let’s start with the Blast Protection, Fire Protection, Projectile Protection, and Protection. All those Enchantments aren’t compatible with each other.
You can try to use them separately, For example, Blast Protection for Helmet, Fire Protection for Chestplate, Projectile Protection for Leggings, and Protection for Boots. But this is more complicated and harder to get.
In my opinion, use Protection for all your Armor sets. Even though it doesn’t perform better than the individual Enchantments, it still can perform very well when you use it for all your Armor sets.
And now for the rest Enchantments, Thorns, Mending, and Unbreaking.
Do not use Thorns. Even though it attacks the attacker, using Thorns also means sacrificing durability when you get hit. It makes your Armor not durable. By the way, attacking mobs in Minecraft isn’t that hard.
Having both Mending (If you don’t mind give XP for your Armor) and Unbreaking is a great idea. It’s 100% recommended.
So, this is my recommended Chestplate (and other Armor sets) Enchantments:
Protection + Unbreaking + Mending (at maximum level).
Some Tips
Finding those Enchantments might be hard for you, so here are my tips:
- Before you enchant your Chestplate, make sure the Enchanting Table is fully optimized (properly surrounded by Bookshelves).
- Try to enchant books instead. Books give you more Enchantments to choose from.
- Try XP farming in Dungeon or Nether Fortress.
- Try Mine Nether Quartz. It has many XP compared to ore blocks.
- Explore your Minecraft World. Not only will you discover new items, new areas, and new structures, you might have a chance to find rare enchantments too.
Keep in mind, that this is just my suggestion to pick Enchantments that I think are great for Chestplate. You can still select Chestplate Enchantments the way you want. It’s up to you.
